Baby's First Picture
This is a scan of our first ultrasound picture taken at our first doctor's visit. The arrow points to the baby, it's the gray blurb in the right part of the white bean shaped thing. At this point, the baby is approximately 8 weeks old. My official due date will be August 3rd. So far, we have ONE healthy baby with a fast healthy heartbeat.
12 week ultrasound
This is another ultrasound that we had taken at about 12 weeks. We weren't supposed to have an ultrasound at this visit but the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat so she did one to be able to see the heartbeat, which we did. We could see the baby moving around and kicking. We could see the baby's hand and it's fingers moving. The pictures aren't as good as I would have liked but it was kind of a bonus ultrasound anyway. We should be able to find out whether it's a boy or girl at the end of March.
It's a Girl!!!
We found out yesterday that we have a healthy baby girl on the way! The doctor said everything looks good and she is growing like she should be. She is estimated to weigh about 12 or 13 ounces. I can feel her move now and the reality of there actually being a baby in there is beginning to set in (along with the reality that this baby is going to have to come out somehow someday.) We were fortunate to have both of our moms there for the big news and they are very excited to have a granddaughter on the way. I will post some ultrasound pictures as soon as we can scan them. The baby was being very stubborn (I don't know where she gets that from??) so we weren't able to get as good of pictures as I would have liked. Here is a picture of Alan and I after hearing our big news.
Alien Baby
I think she looks like an alien baby in this picture. Her head is to the right and you can see her arm towards the bottom under her head and her curled up leg to the bottom left.
28 weeks
I am now 28 weeks or about 6 months. Only about 12 weeks to go! Everything has been going good except for a few minor kinks such as my feet swelling like the marshmallow man's and a little high blood pressure. I've been feeling good except for being tired quite a bit. We've decided on the name Avery but aren't sure on a middle name yet. We have nothing ready for the nursery yet. In fact, there is a treadmill sitting in the middle of the room right now, so we are a little behind on that. The baby is really moving around a lot and I wonder what will happen once she gets bigger because it feels pretty crowded in there right now. I can tell you that our little Avery loves to snuggle, she snuggles a lot with everything in my stomach, especially my bladder. She also loves peanut butter shakes (ok, maybe I can't completely blame my cravings for peanut butter shakes on her, but I thought that I would give it a shot!)
Baby's Face
This is a picture of her face at the ultrasound that we had taken at my 28 week visit. I was really amazed at how much clearer you could see her features. She was even moving her mouth and trying to talk to us. Her hand is up by her chin. She weighs about 3 lbs at this point.
Our First Shower and Last Vacation Without Kids
We had our first baby shower last weekend. We got lots of great stuff including our swing, which Alan has already put together and is ready to go. We really appreciate everyone who helped organize the shower and everyone who came to the shower! We had a great time! We also went to my family's reunion in Mexico Beach, Florida last week (in case you are wondering where our glowing tans are from.) While in Florida, I celebrated by 30th birthday (argh). I was adorned with a birthday lei and we had cake and ice cream for everyone. I told Alan we'll have to spend more of my birthdays on the beach. Here is a picture of us at our shower and a picture of Alan parasailing in Florida.
34 Week Update
I had my 34 week visit this past week and we had our last ultrasound. We could see lots of hair on her head on the ultrasound, so the doctor said to get out the bows! She measured Avery to estimate how much she weighs to make sure she's not getting too big or too small. Based on the measurements, she is estimated to weigh about 5 lbs and 12 oz! The doctor said that she should grow about 1/2 lb each week until she's born. Since we are probably looking at an 8 lb plus baby, the doctor said it would be ideal to induce me at around 38 1/2 weeks if my body is cooperating but we'll pretty much have to wait and see what happens. The doctor said this large baby is pretty much Alan's fault since he weighed about 10 lbs when he was born (I was a dainty 6 lbs plus a few ounces.) She did seem to have a growth spurt in Florida. Because as soon as we got back, I started getting uncomfortable and could really tell she was getting bigger and my weight also showed a growth spurt. I'm still feeling pretty good, although, any physical activity wears me out really quickly, even something as simple as grocery shopping. Yet, there are only about 6 weeks left or possibly less!
Baby Update
Well, I am 28 weeks along and still doing good. I went to the doctor this week and she did an ultrasound, verified it was still a boy and measured him to weigh about 2 pounds (right where he should be for 28 weeks). Although, I told her that he feels really big to me. While I was sitting in the waiting room, I looked down to see my stomach moving all around. I don't remember Avery being this strong. I also realized how little time I have left until he gets here. We have cleaned out the extra bedroom for the most part. We still need to pick out some furniture and paint the room. We haven't decided on a name yet but we both like the name Aidan. We asked Avery her opinion on the name and she said we should name him Baby Brother (not much help). We talk about the baby and I tell her that he's in my belly and she always grabs my shirt and tries to lift it and says "I want to see." She'll sit for about 2 seconds to try and feel him kick. Although, I've started telling her that he's giving her a high five or waving at her because if I tell that he's kicking her, she tries and tell him "no, no".
